May 2022 Newsletter

It has been an eventful half term. Our children in Year 2 and Year 6 have completed their SATS.
We are all very proud of the positive attitude they displayed. Our Year 1 children have visited
Milton Hall and Key Stage 2 children represented the school in a Hockey Tournament with other
local schools.

The children continue to enjoy the lunchtime sport provision delivered by Premier Education. Daily
tug o 'war sessions are a big favourite.

The summer term is often when we see children starting to not wear their school uniform. At
Leighton we are very proud of our school and wearing school uniform is part of our community.
After the break we will promote this in school. We appreciate at this time of year children outgrow
their uniform. In order to help we will hold a ‘New to You’ Sale so parents can purchase items they
may need.

Welcome Back!
It has been lovely to open our doors and welcome parents back into school. We have held
parent cafes for some of our children. Thank you to the parents who supported each of the
events. If your child’s class has not yet hosted a cafe, keep a look out for the invite from your
child’s teacher after the half term break.
We were amazed by the fantastic turn out to our Queens Jubilee picnic on Wednesday, it was
lovely to see so many families enjoying the event. Despite it being a windy and cloudy day that
didn't seem to dull the festivities, we raised £1783.69. A big thank you for all of your support and
we will let you know how we intend to use this money. Please look at the schools website for
photos of the event. We aim to post them on the website after the break.

School Lunches
All the children started to have their lunch back in the school hall - like old times! It has been lovely
to see the children enjoying the selection of meals available to them. If your child has not yet tried
a school meal you can pay through ParentPay and your child can choose what they would like to
eat on the day, during registration. If your child is eligible for Free School Meals or in Key Stage 1
they are entitled to a meal every day. This could be a saving of at least £400 per year.

Commonwealth Games Event
This year we have been developing the children’s awareness of international sporting events.
Earlier this year the children enjoyed it when we hosted our own Winter Olympics. This summer the
children will participate in Leighton’s Commonwealth Games. Children will have the opportunity
to try different athletic sports. We are still finalising plans and will contact you with more
information after the break.
