Leighton is a Nominee.

Due to our effort in doing more for girls in sport, we have been nominated for a 'Girls and Sport Pledge Award 2022'

Totally Runable was founded in 2014 by an Olympian and a lawyer, it is now a successful business which works with schools helping to promote 'Girls In Sport' by building confidence in sport, exercise and life.

Girls' sport has come a long way in recent years, but research still shows that girls begin to doubt their sporting ability from as young as 7 years old. Therefore, when I started my role as the school's sports coach back in September, I signed our School up to 'Totally Runable', pledging that as a school we would do more to help close the gender sport gap.  Since pledging, we have been running a weekly 'Girls In Sport' Club, specifically aimed at getting more girls taking part in sporting clubs and activities, by offering them a female only environment where they can feel comfortable taking part and learning new skills and sports. The club is open to all abilities. On a weekly basis the girls  show true sportsmanship qualities. Supporting each other, encouraging and helping their peers.

Adding to our pledge, we have also had the pleasure of attending various sporting festivals, including hockey and SEND bowling, in which girls from across the school have taken part.

From 27th June to 1st July the Totally Runable community will be celebrating Girls and Sport Pledge Week and will be announcing award winners across the week.

Fingers Crossed!! But until then we shall continue to follow our pledge and strive to make Leighton a school where gender is not a barrier within sport.
