Curriculum Intent Statement

At Leighton Primary School, we believe that we should offer all children a coherently planned foundation curriculum that is underpinned by the Leighton school values. This provides a high focus on developing children’s moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding, including British values.

Our broad and engaging foundation curriculum will:

  • provide equality of opportunity and nurture aspirations
  • spark interest, promote an enquiring mind and inspire a love of learning
  • develop an understanding of the world and their impact on it
  • prepare for further learning and for a fulfilling, healthy and successful future as a citizen of our world

The children’s own community is frequently used as a starting point for engaging interest. We aim to engender a sense of personal pride in achievement and provide a purpose and relevance for learning.

As the school serves a community where there is a wide variation in the level of economic advantage and social inclusion, we provide activities that children may not otherwise have access to. We recognise that the children need both a sense of valuing themselves, and developing aspirations for their future and their community.
