Leighton Primary School

Pupil and Sports Premium

"The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility."

In the Autum term of 2017 we will be having an independent, DfE approved and trained, headteacher reviewing the school's use of Pupil Premium funding. He will be looking at the developing school strategy for the school's future Pupil Premium investment.

Sports Premium

Physical education and sport effects the child’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. Throughout life it forms an integral part of the overall education of the child through the use and knowledge of the body and its movements. We aim to teach children the value and enjoyment of participating in physical activity while at school and throughout life.

We employ a professional sports coach, who covers KS1 and Foundation PPA time, to provide the children the highest quality PE experience. KS2 receive high quality PE sessions from their class teachers. Our coaches also provide organised games and PE opportunities at break and lunch times as well as providing after school clubs for all year groups.
