Sea Lion and Dolphin Class
with Miss Philips and Mrs Geldart.
To kick start our new adventure in Year 2 our topic for this term will be The Titanic! We will be reading lots of fiction and non-fiction books to spark our imagination and interest.
This term we will have a big focus on handwriting, number facts and spelling in order to secure and build on our confidence in English and Maths.
Our topic for this term will be The Great Fire of London!
Lots of our work in other subjects will relate to this event and era.
In Art we will create silhouette paintings of London during the fire and read a variety of nonfiction texts during Guided Reading to help us learn facts about this historic time. In Science we will be learning more about Materials and will be testing out a range of them to understand their properties further. This exciting topic gives us plenty of opportunities for writing; we will write newspaper reports, diary entries and fictional stories. A great way for our Year 2’s to become real historians!
The summer term is always very busy but we have a lot to look forward to in Year 2. Our new topic Global Gardens and Florence Nightingale, gives us a great opportunity to explore the outdoors.
This term we learn about different habitats and where animals originate from around the world. We will spend some of our Art lesson looking at different Monet paintings and trying to recreate these using water colours. We spend a lot of this term consolidating what we have learnt throughout the year so far and try our very best to apply this in our end of year assessments.
