June 2022 Newsletter

It has been an eventful half term so far! Our wonderful KS1 children have completed their
Phonics screening. They all tried their very best and showed great confidence! We are all very
proud of the positive attitude they have displayed.

Our Year 1 children visited Milton Hall and some of our Key Stage 2 children represented the
school in a Rounders Tournament with other local schools showing amazing maturity in what was a
very tight match.

Year 4 completed the Multiplication Tables Check online - I know their teachers are really proud of
all of the children and they have improved their scores since the start of the year.
This week is our annual Mad Scientist week. This is a firm favourite with the children and it is
wonderful to see them dressing up and enjoying science workshops. Have a look at the school
website in a few days when some of the photos will be uploaded.

Warmer Weather
As the days are getting much hotter we would like to advise parents to please ensure that ALL
children bring their water bottles to school to keep hydrated, they will also need to have hats and
sunscreen in named bottles for lunch and playtimes. Can we ask that children still wear
appropriate uniform.

Commonwealth Games Event
It was lovely to see so many families supporting their children and enjoying the sporting event. We
have had so much positive feedback from parents and staff about this event and would like to
thank you all for supporting this event in school. I think this is an event for future years.

Bouncy Castle Fridays
Due to the great British weather we have had to rearrange a few of the organised sessions but
would like to inform you that each class will get to use the bouncy castle before the end of the
term, we will keep you updated on any changes that are made.

New To Reception 2022 Meeting
Thursday 23rd June 2022 we had a lovely turn out to the “New Parents Event for Reception 2022” It
was so nice to meet the new parents (new and old, as this is not the first rodeo for some of you!)

Year 6 Learning Cafe
Our super Year 6 children had their parents in for a Learning cafe last Thursday.
Sadly due to no fault of the school, the Y6 residential was cancelled by the organisers. We are busy
trying to find alternative activities for the children...watch this space.

New to you
We have so much unclaimed school uniform we have decided to launder it and then hold regular
‘new to you’ sales. There are lots of items in very good condition. This is a great way to buy school
uniform at a significantly reduced cost. We will let you know when this will happen.

Friends of Leighton
We had a meeting on 28th June and are planning an event in the summer term (time permitting). It
would be lovely for more parents to get involved. We will be continuing into the Autumn term too, look
out for the first meeting date in September. If you are interested or would like any more information,
please contact jaubert@leightonprimary.net

Blind bid to win a place at Premier Education Multi-Sport Summer Camp
Premier Education work in school at lunch times and for some PE lessons to provide the children with

the school with fundraising. 2 passes were won in the raffle during the Jubilee picnic. The 3rd is still up
for grabs. The pass will give your child free access to the summer camp at Leighton School for 4 weeks

fantastic prize. All the money from the bid will go towards the school and improving provision and
resources for the children. Bid’s must be received by 3pm on 11th July.
