Peterborough Cathedral visit - December, 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Peterborough Cathedral where Christians go to worship together and explored the building using our five senses. We touched the different textures of materials around the cathedral which included stone, marble and wood. We were told about Katherine of Aragon and smelt some different herbs that she would have used and some incense. We tasted bread when listening to how Jesus had twelve special friends called disciples, who he shared a special meal with. We heard how the organ and bells sound, and realised that in parts of the cathedral our voices echoed. We saw colourful stained glass windows which tell people stories, decorative patterns and pictures on the ceilings and floors, marble statues and carvings in stone. We felt the water from the font and heard how babies are baptised. We also looked at the Christmas tree decorated with lights and a star, and the Advent candle. We talked about how Christians are preparing to remember the special event of Jesus' birth.
