Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed DT week. They were set the challenge of designing a Caribbean-inspired Salsa. Firstly, the children researched foods that are native to the Caribbean and the produce that is grown there. They then analysed some salsas that are already available to buy. This included finding out their ingredients, describing their flavour, aroma and texture. The children then wrote their own design specification and planned their recipe. When making the salsas, children were able to develop their knife skills, preparing vegetables with both the claw and the bridge grip. Parents and carers helped the children evaluate their salsas, though we thought they were all delicious and very colourful. The children are looking forward to designing their bridges next week.
