In year 6, we delved into the amazing country of Mexico. We immersed ourselves in its culture; prepared Mexican food and explored famous landmarks. We learned about the ancient civilisations of Mayans and Aztecs as we explored the pyramids of Chichén Itzá and the ancient ruins of Teotihuacán. We also learned about the Day of the Dead, which is a festival in Mexico. It stretches from November 1st - all through the night and into the following day; Mexicans believe that their loved ones come back from the dead every year to spend the day with them. It is not a sad occasion. Instead, it's a big party, at which everyone can have a great time.
In food technology, we looked at how to prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes safely and hygienically. We tasted some Mexican delicacies such as: empanadas, salsa, guacamole and papayas. They were delicious!
In design and technology, we used different skills and techniques to produce functional and aesthetical good quality products. We had fun designing and creating our own mini piñatas, which we then filled with a variety of sweets.
