At Leighton, we are committed to build on the work of our professional partners and work in close with parents and carers to give every child the best possible start that enables them to fulfil their potential.
The four guiding principles from the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage, shapes our practice at Leighton.
Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning, can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
Children develop and learn at different rates.
Our curriculum is designed to be enjoyable, engaging and rewarding for every child, to ignite and fuel their love of learning and build a strong foundation for their future education. The learning experiences we provide are thoughtfully planned to meet children’s growing developmental needs, yet are flexible to include individual children’s interests and fascinations. Our curriculum includes everything from hand washing to learning how to write a sentence.
We use the Department for Education’s guidance called ‘Development Matters’ which your child’s nursery, childminder or preschool are likely to have followed. Development Matters has been updated and now includes guidance for children in their reception year. If you wish to look at this guidance, please click on the link here.
