Week beginning 4.5.20 oo (short) ar or

Hello. I hope you are keeping safe and well.

This week we are going to focus on recapping the Phase three digraphs (two letters making one sound) short oo in book, ar in car and or in fork. At the end of the week we are also going to review the tricky words.

Lesson 1 - oo (short)                                     

*Using the Phase 3 sound mat, ask your child to read each phoneme.

*Listen to the Jolly Phonics songs for phase three, The j sound is the beginning of Phase 3 and starts at 5 min 27 seconds, so you could start from here. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2wpdvv 

*Todays focus is 'oo' (short sound in book and look). Practice writing this digraph in the air/on your hand/on someone’s back/on a whiteboard or paper. I have included a photo of a slide on Tapestry so your child can see how it sits on the line. Say the formation rhymes as you write them in lowercase: oo - all around the orange, all around the orange.

*Now can you write the words: took, foot, booklet and read the oo words on Tapestry.
*Play Sentence substitution Phase 3 on phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/SentSubPhase3.html using the Username:march20 Password:home Choose the sentence ‘She has had lots of good books.’
Challenge: Can you now write a silly sentence or question of your own using an oo word?

Lesson 2  - ar                                                    

*Using the Phase 3 sound mat, say some of the phonemes including oo from yesterday’s lesson, for them to find on the sound mat. Make it a race to see if they can find it before you point to it.

*Today’s focus is the vowel digraph ar in card. Practice writing this digraph in the air/on your hand/on someone’s back/on a whiteboard or paper. I have included a photo of a slide (see attached) so your child can see how it sits on the line. Say the formation rhymes as you write them in lowercase:

a- all around the apple and then down don't forget the leaf.
r - down the robots back and curl over his arm.

*Say these words for your child to say the sounds in them:- ark part carp mark

*Look at the ar words on the short film clip on Tapestry. Try to read the words using sound buttons to help you.

*Write the sentence: Mark had good fun at the farm.                                                                                                    Challenge: Change the sentence to make it say:- Carl had good fun at the park.

Lesson 3 – or                                                    

*Using the Phase 3 sound mat, ask your child to write some of the phonemes. Include oo from yesterday’s lesson. If your child struggles to do this from memory, encourage them to find it themselves first by looking at the sound mat.

*Today's focus is or in fork. Write the or sound you could use ictgames.com/mobilePage/skyWriter/index.html to help the formation of this.

*Read the words on the short film on Tapestry.

*Make up some funny sentences together with your child using different or words. Here are some words to help you:- corn cork born sort fort port

Can you beat your time from last week?

*Copy out the words no, go, you and they onto a piece of paper. Keep practicing writing them until they can be written from memory.

*Ask your child to have a go at writing the sentence They can go to the park. Please remind your child to use finger spaces between words, a capital letter to start the sentence and a full stop to end the sentence.

*Now ask your child to plan and write their own sentence with the word – You (e.g. I hope you can run fast, You must put your shoes on). Remember to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.

*Practice Phase 2 tricky words by singing the Phase 2 Tricky words song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0 Pause the song at random times to check the words are known confidently.
