Phase 4 - Week 1
Hi. As we have now covered learning about each of the sounds we will keep practicing them but move on to reading and spelling words with particular final consonant blends

Lesson 1 – final consonant blends nk mp nd sk nt
*First ask your child to write these sounds from memory. er ur ow
*Today's focus is practicing reading and writing words with nk mp nd sk nt at the end of them.
*Your child should know the individual letter sounds but they do sound a bit funny when we try to blend them together. They are a bit like cavemen sounds. Read the sounds around the cave boy.
*Say these words segmented (like a robot) one at a time for your child to blend together to say the word:- l-a-m-p wh-i-s-k s-i-n-k h-a-n-d t-e-n-t *Let them look at the pictures to help them.
*Try reading the words on the Phase 4 day 1 video on Tapestry.
*Read together the sentence Can you think of a land or a person to go and see? Talk about your responses to the question. It might be someone you haven’t seen for a long time or a made up land where everything is purple or made of sweets!
*Now say the following words one at a time for your child to spell:- bank sand risk ramp sent Tell them that each word has 4 sounds.
Lesson 2 – final consonant blends lb ld lf lk lm lp lt
*Ask your child to write these sounds from memory – oi ear
*Today's focus is practicing reading and writing words with lb ld lf lk lm lp lt at the end of them. They all have an l.
*Your child should know the individual sounds but try reading them on the cave wall. They do sound a bit strange.
* Ask your child to have a go at reading some words with the consonant blends at the end.
*Try reading the words on the Phase 4 day 2 video on Tapestry.
*Now get your child to read the sentence “We will help Felt and Wilf,” said Kit and Sam.
*Try playing Wilf’s Cave Trail game in documents below.
Lesson 3 – final consonant blends st ct ft pt xt
*First ask your child to write these trigraphs from memory. air ure
*Today's focus is practicing reading and writing words with st ct ft pt xt at the end. Have you noticed that they all have a t?
*Your child should know the individual sounds but try reading them on the cave wall. They do sound a bit strange.
*Say these words: nest lift dust wept text vest for your child to say the sounds heard first then write them. Remind them that there are 4 sounds in each word.
*On Phonics play, Phase 3 – Sentences, read the air and ure sentences. Did you see any question marks?
*Try reading the words on the Phase 4 day 3 video on Tapestry.
*Now go on Phonics play Phase 4 https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/4 to play the Sentence Substitution game. Pick a sentence and use the words to make different sentences.
