World Book Day 2022

On 3.3.2022 Leighton celebrated World book day in style. It was 25 years since the first World book day celebrations and reasons to read are now well documented.
Why:

Because:

Therefore all (children & adults alike) were invited to:

  • Dress up as their favourite book characters and we had lots of wonderful Harry Potters, Tigers who came to tea and an enormous lifesize dinosaur running around the school.

  • All children were given their Book token for a free book or £1 off a selected book.

  • We all attended the Assembly where we discussed the value of reading in our daily lives, celebrated the Reader's of the month across the school and enjoyed the Where's Wardy powerpoint (attached) which introduced the challenge of finding 25 miniature Mrs Ward models dressed as Where's Wally hidden around the school and grounds.

  • During the daily Reading Pledge - teachers' shared their favourite story/thing to read with their class, and made recommendations of good books.

  • Staff from across the school including office staff, cIeaners, dinner ladies and the finance manager visited classes as 'mystery readers' to share stories and poems.

Additionally

  • In Reception and Year 1 we started to record our journey into reading at Leighton so far by creating ‘Reading Rivers’ that recorded which texts they have enjoyed most so far at school and why, we intend to add to these later in the year and next year.

  • Some classes watched CBeebies bedtime stories enjoying the wealth of celebrities sharing picture books and engaging in storytelling.

  • Other classes took part in the Puffin story makers live show led by famous authors and illustrators.

Our theme song for the day was the World book day song found on you tube by MCGrammmar, 'reading is amazing' .

A great day, was enjoyed by all. Keep Reading.
