Here you can find out the curriculum expectations for Year 1 and learn about what they will be doing this term.
In the Summer Term we are learning about Castles and knights. We will be learning about the history of castles thinking about what the different parts are called and what they are made from. We will learn about what life was like living in a castle. We will have a visit from History off the Page when we will act out castle life ending the day with a banquet when the children will have different roles including entertainers and servants. We will also find out how boys train to become knights and learn about a knight’s role within castles. The children will make their own information books about Castles and knights. We will be learning about Kings and Queens in our history lessons.
During the first half term our book focus will be ‘Jim and the beanstalk’ and during the second half term we will focus on books related to our Africa topic like 'Handa's surprise' and 'Anna Hibiscus'. In maths we will be focusing on multiplication and division, fractions, measure, money and time.
During the second half term we will be learning about Africa. We will be visiting Woburn Safari Park and learning about African animals. We will be going for a walk around our local area and comparing our local area to a village in Africa. We will be looking at Andy Goldsworthy and using a variety of natural materials to create art work. We will be planting a variety of seeds, working hard to help the different plants to grow in our outdoor area. We will be observing the signs of Spring comparing the different seasons.
