Year 1 - Math Expectations
Number
-Count to and across 100. Forward and backwards from any number.
-Read and write numbers to 100 (in numbers).
-Read and write numbers to 20 (in numbers AND words).
-Know one more/one less
-Identify and represent numbers using pictorial representations and objects.
-Use and understand related vocab. E.g equal to, more than, less than, fewer, most, least, first, second etc.
-Know place value of numbers to 100 and beyond.
-Count forward and backward in 2, 5, and 10s
Addition and Subtraction
- Number bonds to 10 and 20, known in many forms e.g 2+8=10, 8+2=10, 10=8+2, 10=2+8, 10-8=2, 10-2=8
-Know + and – are inverse of each other.
-Know, recognise and use symbols + - = and related vocab in calculations and worded problems.
-Be secure solving one step problems using pictures to represent to concrete understanding.
-Missing number patterns and problems.
Multiplication and Division
-Same as + and – but related to x and ÷
-Know 2, 5 and 10 x tables
-Identify, create and understand arrays and how these can be used to support x and ÷
-Problems as + and – but to include arrays.
Fractions
-Recognise, name and find ½ and ¼ of shapes and amounts.
Measure
-Compare, describe and solve practical problems using vocab for:
- Length and height
- Mass and weight
- Capacity and volume
-Time
- Measure and record the above.
-Recognise and know the value of coins and notes.
-Sequence events in order using correct vocab.
-Recognise and know days of week, months, week and year.
-Tell the time to the hour and half hour and show this on a clock.
Shape
- Know and identify 2D and 3D shapes.
-Recognise these shapes in everyday objects.
-Recognise these shapes in different sizes, orientation and representations. E.g knowing any shape with 5 sides is a pentagon.
Position and direction
- know all related vocab for position and direction.
-Know and show ½ ¼ ¾ and whole turns.
-Know clockwise and anticlockwise and left and
