Year 1

Autumn Term

This term we will be focusing on the children's wellbeing as they return to school. We will be including movement breaks and mindfulness activities within our day to day routine to help children to settle back into school.

For the first half of this term our topic is ‘Dinosaurs’. We will be learning about different kinds of dinosaurs, what they ate and how they lived.  During the first half term our book focus will be ‘Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs’ and we will be making our own Non-fiction books about Dinosaurs. 

Next half term we will be learning about Festivals. We will be finding out about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. In English we will be learning about poetry, Guy Fawkes and the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’. 

In maths we are learning to recognise, order and write numbers up to 20. We will be learning to add and subtract and to count on in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

In science we will be learning about the different parts of our body and our five senses. We will be naming and finding out about different types of animals.


Parent Information:

PE day is every Friday please send your child into school in their PE kit. 

Reading books needs to be read three times before they will be changed. Please ensure you child has their book everyday as we will hear your child during the week.

Homework will be sent home every Wednesday and needs to be returned every Monday. The homework will be based on what your child has been learning in school.  Each task will help your child to be independent in their learning tasks.

Please can you ensure your child has a water bottle everyday and that all cardigans and jumpers are labelled with your child's name. 

Your child can bring in one bag to keep their water bottle, lunch box, homework book and reading book in. Please can we ask that no toys come into school at this time.
