We will then go on to design our own fantasy settings to use for our own stories about aliens. We will be learning about similes which we will use to make up our own poems about the moon.

We will be learning about astronauts finding out how you get to be one and what life is like living on the International Space Centre. We will be learning about Tim Peake and his time in Space. We are generating lots of questions about space and the children will be able to research to find out the answers for themselves.

In  maths we will be learning about addition and subtraction and measuring weight, height, volume and length.

In Science we will be identifying materials by going on material hunts and exploring different liquids and how they react with each other. We will also be colour mixing in art using a variety of different skills to create space collages.

We will be visiting the National Space Centre in Leicester this term.

Summer Term

In the Summer Term we are learning about Castles and knights. We will be learning about the history of castles thinking about what the different parts are called and what they are made from. We will learn about what life was like living in a castle.  We will have a visit from History off the Page when we will act out castle life ending the day with a banquet when the children will have different roles including entertainers and servants. We will also find out how boys train to become knights and learn about a knight’s role within castles. The children will make their own information books about Castles and knights. We will be learning about Kings and Queens in our history lessons.

During the first half term our book focus will be ‘Jim and the beanstalk’ and during the second half term we will focus on books related to our Africa topic like 'Handa's surprise' and 'Anna Hibiscus'.

In maths we will be focusing on multiplication and division, fractions, measure, money and time.

During the second half term we will be learning about Africa. We will be visiting Woburn Safari Park and learning about African animals. We will be going for a walk around our local area and comparing our local area to a village in Africa. We will be looking at Andy Goldsworthy and using a variety of natural materials to create art work. We will be planting a variety of seeds, working hard to help the different plants to grow in our outdoor area. We will be observing the signs of Spring comparing the different seasons.
