Here you can find out the curriculum expectations for Year 2 and learn about what they will be doing this term.
The children started the term eager to learn about their new topic, The Great Fire of London!
Spring 1 has been full of reading lots of nonfiction texts about this historic event and as a result the children are starting to have great recall of the details of the day the fire started and the events that followed. We have used this new knowledge to create timelines and our own fictional stories.
In line with our topic we also carried out a bread experiment. We researched different types of bread on the internet and created lists. From this, we then tasted and reviewed a selection of breads from around the world and designed our own. We will be making our own bread in the next few weeks so we can then evaluate how we have got on.
We have been lucky enough to have a visit from Dogsthorpe Fire Station and learn more about the equipment they have access to. We were able to see one of their fire engines first hand and even tried to lift some of their very heavy hoses! We will be writing questions to interview some of the Firefighters when they return to school this half term.
To support our science topic of Materials we will be visiting Cambridge and the shop 'Build a Bear'. Here, the children will be learning about the different materials used to create the popular toys and building their very own to take home. We will also be exploring the city to look at the range of materials used to build all the famous university colleges and bridges.
