Leighton Primary School

Year 2

Hi Year 2,

We hope you are all keeping well and staying safe whilst the school is closed. We are still here to help you with your learning at home and there are some ideas on this page to support you. We are all really missing you and we can't wait to be back at school and hear about all the exciting things you have been doing at home.

We are always happy to receive emails with any questions you may have, advice you might need or just a general update on how you are doing and the things you have been up to at home.  Please email us on:

Daily Activities:  Try to complete as many of the following activities each day ...

1: Read for at least 15 minutes - this could be a school reading book or a book that you enjoy from home.

If you run out of books at your child's level, then you can register for free on the link below for access to online books.  You can then choose books at your child's book band level. Go to the 'Books' tab at the top of the page, and then click on ebook library.  Click on 'ebooks library', then 'levels', then Book Band, then choose your child's book band colour or level.

2:  Do a daily Maths lesson from White Rose. On the link below there is a daily Maths lesson. Each one involves a video lesson which lasts around 15-20 minutes, and a worksheet which can be downloaded and printed, or if you can't print, it can be done verbally on the screen.  It follows what the children would have been learning if they had been in school  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

3:  Writing: Make sure that each day your child does some writing.  It doesn't matter what they are writing about. Think about punctuation e.g. capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks and commas and also really focus on handwriting. It is so important that the children's handwriting shows their understanding of ascenders, descenders and that their letters are correctly formed and sized.

4:  Times Tables: 10 minutes of practising target times tables. Your child should be working on their 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables - use TT Rockstars to practise https://ttrockstars.com/. If you have forgotten your child's password or username, then email the year 2 address above and we can send you the login details.

5: Phonics: Play a couple of games on the website https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/. We use these during our daily Phonic sessions and so the children will be familiar with them already. The children should be confident with the Phase 5 activities and most children are now working within Phase 6.

6:  Exercise: It is really important for your child's health and mental health that they exercise for at least half an hour each day. Joe Wicks is leading daily P.E. sessions on his You Tube channel at 9am.
